Adoption of the ICOMOS Guidelines on Fortifications and Military Heritage

ICOFORT is Celebrating and wants to share with you the Adoption of the ICOMOS Guidelines on Fortifications and Military Heritage!

We are pleased to inform that as part of the 2021 ICOMOS Annual General Assembly Resolution AGA 2021/10 – the ICOMOS Guidelines on Fortifications and Military Heritage has been adopted.

Over the period of 2007-2017, the ICOMOS Scientific Committee on Fortifications and Military Heritage (ICOFORT) developed the ICOMOS Guidelines on Fortifications and Military Heritage. The Final Draft of the related document was completed at the ICOFORT Seminar that took place in Siena from June 11-14, 2017, when a group of experts immersed themselves for three days in the discussion of the document and achieved the finalization of the text.

The purpose of the document is to serve as an international reference for the protection, conservation, interpretation, and safeguarding of Fortifications and Military Heritage.

This document is the result of years of diligent work among ICOFORT Members. We also thank all the members of the ICOMOS National and International Scientific Committees who contributed to the document as well with their review and comments.

May good initiatives and actions be built on this reference.
